About this tool
This recorder uses your browser's built-in screen capture. When you select Start, your browser shows its own window asking what to share: the entire screen, one application window or a single browser tab. Nothing is recorded until you choose, and the browser shows an indicator for as long as sharing continues.
The video is assembled on your device and never streamed or uploaded. Chrome and Edge save MP4 where supported and WebM otherwise; Firefox saves WebM. WebM plays in all modern browsers and in VLC; to edit it in software that only accepts MP4, convert it with a free tool such as HandBrake.
Sound from the screen depends on what you share: Chrome and Edge can record a tab's audio, and on Windows the whole system's audio when sharing the entire screen. Tick "Record my microphone" to narrate.
Good to know
- Works in desktop Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Opera. Phones and tablets do not allow screen capture from websites.
- Keep this tab open while recording; closing it ends the recording.
- Long recordings use memory: for recordings over about an hour, record in parts.
