How to use it

  1. Enter the amount.

  2. Choose a country preset or type a rate.

  3. Choose "Add VAT" for net prices or "Remove VAT" for prices that include VAT.

About this tool

Add VAT: gross = net × (1 + rate ÷ 100). At 5%, 1,000 becomes 1,050. Remove VAT: net = gross ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100). The VAT inside 1,050 at 5% is 50. A common mistake is to subtract 5% of the gross (52.50), which overstates the VAT.

Presets show each country's standard rate as known when this page was written; they are a convenience, not an official source. Many countries have reduced or zero rates for certain goods and services, and rates change, so confirm with the relevant authority (in the UAE, the Federal Tax Authority) for invoices.

Good to know

  • Standard rates only; reduced, zero-rated and exempt items are not covered.
  • Not tax advice. Check current rates with your tax authority.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate 5% VAT in the UAE?

Multiply the net amount by 1.05 for the total, or by 0.05 for the VAT alone. 2,000 AED + 5% VAT = 2,100 AED.

How do I remove VAT from a total?

Divide the total by 1 plus the rate. For 5%: 1,050 ÷ 1.05 = 1,000 net, so the VAT is 50.

What is the VAT rate in Saudi Arabia?

The standard rate is 15%. Select the Saudi Arabia preset.
